Outline Format for Research Paper and Fieldwork Proposal

1. INTRODUCTION

What is the topic that you propose to examine?  How does it relate to the course topics of deviance and social control?

Construct some initial questions?

Explain in 1 sentence why you chose this topic?

1. METHODOLOGY—[ you may leave this section blank, if you have not yet decided and would like to meet with me to discuss what methods you will propose using]

In a couple of sentences state how you would do the research, if you were to undertake this project.

*Discuss any preliminary field work that you might have already done.  For instance, maybe you are a member of the group that you are choosing to study or maybe you have observed people from the group you are proposing to study or you have observed them at some time.  Or maybe you have researched this topic in the past for another class.

1. WORKING BIBLIOGRAPHY

 Identify 1 journal article and attach abstract.

Check the criminal justice abstracts or other social science data bases on the Library websites.  You may also use Google scholar.

Identify 1 other source that you will use.

This can include a popular news source.

You can start by checking out articles in the course reader if the topic is similar to yours.
