Halal Menu and Explanation

Now that you know so much about both the Hajj and the stipulation of Halal food, your assignment is to create a festive menu for an Eid al-Adha banquet.

Imagine that you have several Muslim friends in one of your classes that have no where to go for Eid al-Adha, so you invite them to your home and serve a wonderful dinner for the holiday. You do not have to cook ethnic food (where are your Muslim friends from, anyway? Saudi Arabia? The Philippines? Texas?), so imagine things that you would feel comfortable preparing (yes maybe with a friend or parent's help if you are not a great chef!) You DO have to make sure everything at the meal is Halal.

Please create a menu for this meal and post it as an image (consider using Powerpoint and saving your slide as a .pdf, or using the Easl.ly infographic tool). Include a explanation of how you decided what to serve. Be sure to include drinks, appetizers, a main course, and dessert, PLUS a short explanation of why you chose to prepare and served these particular foods to these particular guests on this day.  Have fun!

The assignment dropbox allows you to submit your work as a URL (link) or as a file.

Each of you will be assigned menus submitted by classmates for Peer Review comments. The Menus are due Thursday at 8pm; Peer reviews will be open from Thursday evening until Saturday at 11pm. 

Peer Review parameters and Assignment Grading details:

Peer Reviews should focus on how well the student completed the assignment and the overall effectiveness of the project's delivery:

• Was the strictly Halal?
• Were the menu and explanation easily understandable?
• Was it informative, attractive, or thought provoking?
• Was it respectful?

The instructor's grade will concentrate on these same questions.
