How to Edit Modules

The template you have downloaded and imported comes complete with weekly modules. You will of course want to arrange and edit these modules to suit the flow of your course but we strongly recommend that you do not dump the entire module system in favor of a different navigational strategy. Canvas's module system is its most powerful feature, and in the Spring 2020 Quarter students overwhelmingly voiced their preference for courses set up with a clear module system. Modules allow you to organize your course quickly and easily, and once you have organized your content in modules they become the table of contents for your course. This allows students to page through your course activities in a way that is guided and logical. By simply clicking in the Modules link in the left navigation, students can see where they are going and keep track of where they have been.

Modules also make it easy to build out your course since you can quickly add, edit, and move items—pages, discussions, assignments, quizzes, and more—until you get the right flow. See the Canvas Basics: Quick Tour for a refresher on everything that can go into a module.

◉ How to change a module's title, duplicate it, or delete it:

If you click on the 3 dots on the right side of the module header, you will find a menu that allows you to Edit the module name along with other choices such as Delete or Duplicate the entire module. Note: Deleting the  Module does not delete the contents. All pages, assignments, discussions, etc. remain in the course. Also, the Duplicate function does not work if there is a Quiz in the module. (Remove quiz temporarily to duplicate.)

◉ How to edit items in a module:

Items within modules have a dropdown menu that allows you to Edit the title, Duplicate the item or Remove the item. Duplicated items will have "copy" added to their titles. You can edit this. Removed items will still be in the course, they just won't appear in the module.

◉ How to move items within and between modules:

You can drag and drop both modules and items by grabbing the 8 dots on the left side of the module or items. You can even drag items between modules.
