Figure Out a Solid Course Structure
The first step to building out your Canvas course will be to figure out what you will be doing most weeks. This doesn't mean that there will be no variation as you move through the quarter but rather that there will be an underlying structure or scaffolding that communicates your expectations clearly and logically and gives students a sense of the general rhythm of the course.
Obviously, this weekly structure is dependent on the modality you will be working in. A course set up for meeting three times a week via Zoom with some materials posted in Canvas will look very different from a fully online course with no synchronous meeting times scheduled. So before you begin to build your course you will need to know the parameters. Once you do, you can use the pages in this module to help you:
- Develop a weekly plan
- Find, download, and import a template into your course (or request a PREP space from CDLI)
- Translate your weekly plan into a framework
- Figure out what goes where. (Be sure not to skip this one.)
Also in this module are some helpful pages for working with Canvas such as:
