Week 8: Overview
From here on out you will be working to flesh out your course, to integrate your activities and content in ways that make sense. This week we will show you some strategies for organizing content but keep in mind that your instructional designer is also available to help you with this. We calculate that it takes approximately 80 - 200 hours to build a fully online course. If you use mostly text, assigned readings and curated videos you will be closer to the low end of the scale. If you plan to produce a lot of media on your own, you will need to plan your time accordingly. One of the best ideas for keeping on track is to flesh out at least one full module. This will give you an idea of how much time you will need to budget to get your course ready for review.
What We Will Cover This Week
- The types of content that works well online (and the types that don't).
- How to translate your PowerPoint content into something that works online.
- How much content should go on a page.
- Basic page design.
- How to create different kinds of links.
- How to use homepage and page templates.
- How to embed media.
- Places to find Open Educational Resources you can use in your course.
Get Your Project Ready for Next Week
Next week you will be getting feedback from one or more of your colleagues about the project that you've been working on.
