Finding and Using Copyright Free Images (and Videos)
Images can help contextualize your course. They also work as visual landmarks for students reviewing content. There are a number of ways to get copyright free images into your course:
- Getty Images: CDLI has a subscription to the royalty free photobank. If you need an image go to Getty Images Links to an external site. and type in your search word(s). Once you find an image, send the 9-digit code associated with the image to your instructional designer and he or she will get the image for you.

Limieux Library: The library has lots of resources for how to obtain art and images for your course. The libguide on using images is a great place to start. The library has access to images for the arts, medical, science & engineering, history, and government. They also provide access to thousands of films

- Google Images: Google allows you to search for images while filtering for usage rights. Type in your search word(s) choose Images, then Tools, then Usage Rights You should be fine with the least stringent choice, which is Labeled for noncommercial reuse.

Free Image Sites: There are a number of free image sites online. Some are better than others. However, here are a few we think are worth a try:
