Meeting with Your Instructional Designer

After Week 3 you will be paired with an instructional designer and he or she will reach out to you to set up an introductory meeting before we meet again in Week 5. Your instructional designer will work with you to develop a project to work on during Course Design. You will be getting your project ready for peer review in Week 9 and to show during our last meeting together in December.

Your instructional designer will also work with you to establish a working timeline for finishing your course in time for review. They will be your go to person for any questions or concerns.

Working With an Instructional Designer

Instructional designers are your partner in designing and building online courses. They typically have backgrounds in pedagogy and technology. Their job is to ensure assessments measure the desired objectives and determine how assessments and content delivery can best be accomplished online. They are familiar with online tools and platforms that can make a dynamic learning environment, and they also know how to operationalize those systems with the goal of giving students a seamless educational experience.

While instructional designers do have educational backgrounds, they likely will know very little about your subject matter. They won’t tell you what to teach, but they will be mindful of the course goals and thus may ask if materials are within the scope of the course. They also won’t tell you how to teach, but they will make recommendations about instructional activities based on their experience with online delivery.
