Questions to Get You Started

In your ePortfolio you will find a series of static pages that are on a dropdown menu. Depending on your program this menu may be called Outcomes, Capabilities, Skills or something else entirely. On each of these pages you will be writing a succinct narrative to contextualize all of your evidence for a specific outcome. This narrative should be more than a dry recitation of facts. You want to let readers see who you are and keep them interested by providing a compelling story about your learning.

Depending on your chosen theme, you may also need to input your content on the Home, Resume, About Me, and My Plans pages. You'll learn more in the next lesson.

Below are some questions to get you started. You don’t have to answer all of them and you will probably think of others. However, writing these sections can be challenging so it's a good idea to get feedback on your writing. Ask reviewers if your writing seems clear, persuasive and credible and if it makes them want to learn more about you and dive into your work examples.

Some Questions to Think About

  • What about your background or personality informed what you learned?
  • Are there connections between things you are doing in different areas of your life?
  • Did you learn something in one area that gave you insight into another?
  • Did you master something that originally seemed impossible?
  • Did you discover you had a talent or an interest that you intend to follow up on?
  • What surfaced as interesting or important about what you learned?
  • Can you highlight “aha” moments or pinpoint when you began to question certain assumptions?
  • Do you have evidence of earlier and later learning that can illustrate growth over time?
  • What connections can you make between yourself and society—whether that is local, national, or global—in connection with what you have learned or experienced?
  • Where do you see significant growth, and why?
  • What were the limitations of your experience and how could you ensure that future experiences would be less limited?
  • What are the possible consequences of your learning experiences? How do you think they will impact your future?
