Week 1: Defining the Circle

Defining the circle small 17.jpg

Before the Workshop

Take a look at the The Circle, which is on the next page and forms the basis for how we will be approaching course design throughout these workshops. It will give you some background for why and how we developed The Circle as a means of enhancing Ignatian Pedagogy Links to an external site. with current research. You will notice that this same circle appears in the Course Design Notebook that came in your packet. Please bring your notebook with you to the workshops.

During the Workshop

During the workshop you will be asked to think about how you would go about getting each of the five elements from the Ignatian Pedagogical Paradigm into a course. We will have five stations set up around the lab and working together you will add your ideas to Padlets, which are a kind of digital message board. Afterwards we'll have time to take a look at what everyone posted and discuss what came up for you as you considered the the Circle in the context of your course.

After the Workshop

HOMEWORK

Looking at either the List of Ideas we plan to collate from this week's Padlet posts or the Padlets themselves (Context, Experience, Reflection, Action and Evaluation), jot down ideas that you think would work particularly well for your course in your Course Design Notebook.

READ AHEAD AND PREPARE

Next week we will begin the process of identifying and defining your course "takeaways," the big ideas you want your students to remember from your course. If you have yet not chosen a course to design, please make sure you do so before the workshop. You won't be able to participate effectively in the next workshop—or in the rest of course design—until you do.
