How to Build a Course Skeleton

Before next week's workshop it is a good idea to build your "Course Skeleton." A course skeleton is really a just bare bones outline of your course in Canvas. It is useful because at a glance you can see the general flow of you course and where you need to work.

The best way to create a useful course skeleton is to realize that once you have your major assignments in place, all of the other material you need to include will logically grow out of those assignments. That's why we refer to the assignments as the "spine" of your course.  By looking at your Modules list you will be able to see if you have too much content and too few activities or vise versa. It's possible that you want to have three discussions in a given week but if you don't you will easily be able to spot your mistake by simply running your eye down the icons in the Modules list.

If you don't know how to create modules and add items to modules—and there is no expectation that you would—we have you covered. Just go to next week's "How to" pages, starting with How to Set Up a Module.)
