How to Set Up an Assignment
Below are instructions for creating a basic assignment. For more detailed information about assignments visit the CDLI Help Center Links to an external site..
Assignments are useful if you would like for your students to turn in their work online. Also, when you add a graded assignment a column for that assignment automatically appears in your gradebook. If you are using Modules (and we encourage you to do so) the easiest way to create a new assignment is to go to the Module where you want your assignment to appear. (Don't worry if you are not sure where you want the assignment; you can drag the assignment around and even to other modules after you have created it.)
Step 1
Click in the plus sign in the Module row.
Step 2
This will open up the Item window. Assignment is the default choice. Choose [New Assignment], give your assignment an Assignment Name. Finish by clicking Add Item.
Step 3
Now your assignment will appear in the module. Click on the assignment name to open.
Step 4
Click on Edit to work on your assignment.
Step 5
(1) Add instructions using the Rich Text Editor. (2) Put in the number of points the assignment is worth. (3) Make sure that you choose a type of submission. If you leave the type "No Submission" students won't be able to turn in their work online.
Step 6
If you choose Online submission you will have a choice as to what kinds of things the students can turn in. The most common assignment is a paper, which will require that you choose File Uploads. It is also a good idea to choose which types of files you will receive by clicking Restrict File Upload Types. You can give it a due date if you already know it but make sure you remember to Save or Update Assignment when you're done.
