Choosing the Right Canvas Tool for the Job
THERE ARE 8 TYPES OF CONTENT YOU CAN PUT IN A CANVAS MODULE:
Content Page
Place to put course content - handouts, text, videos, links to other parts of the course, links to external websites. If desired, pages can be editable by students.
Assignment
Place for students to get assignment details and turn in work. If desired, peer reviews can be required.
File
Displays a static document. Should be used sparingly (create links on pages instead).
Discussion
A board for posting asynchronous text or video comments.
Quiz
Tool for posing questions to check for understanding.
External URL
Displays an external web site in the Canvas window.
External Tool
Integrates other applications with Canvas. VoiceThread is the most popular example but proper set up can be tricky - seek assistance.
Text Header
Used to divide and organize content within a module.
