Writing For Exams - IRAC

This presentation provides an introduction to writing in IRAC format. IRAC stands for "Issue, Rule, Analysis, Conclusion," and provides you with an organizational template that can help you write in a clear and focused way on your exams. This is a very basic format for legal writing, but it provides a baseline from which you can grow your legal writing skills. Below you will find a link the video presentation, along with examples of how you could write an IRACed answer for each of the hypos set forth in the PowerPoint. Additionally, we have provided a new hypo about false imprisonment that you can use to test out the IRAC format. If you would like to have someone review your IRAC structure with you, you can send us an answer to the false imprisonment hypo or any other practice exam or hypo that you may have worked on for one of your classes. Feel free to email the Academic Resource Center at lawarc@seattleu.edu or email any of the ARC team members individually to set up an appointment.
